This just in from Nada Surf: "On Saturday March 24th, 2012, we drove into Seattle, Washington, one of our favorite cities, to play at the Neptune Theatre (they spell it Brit style). We were in the midst of a US tour in support of The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy. Days before, our longtime friend and frequent producer John Goodmanson told us that the venue was wired for recording, with a whole extra set of cables going from the stage down to the basement. did we want him to record the show? our answer: yes! a few months ago, we asked fans if they'd be interested in a live album. their answer: yes! so we had John mix it and now it's ready. Live at the Neptune Theatre is available to pre-order in a limited edition 3xLP package that includes a show poster from that night, an LP-sized 8-page color booklet, a t-shirt iron-on and a temporary tattoo: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/nadasurf.
"The package will ship in early 2016 but when you pre-order you receive an immediate digital download of the album. it's also available at all digital outlets today. If you order tickets for the November shows in DC, NYC and Toronto you will also receive a free digital download of the album with your ticket confirmation. Bonus!" we hope you enjoy the record, we sure enjoyed making it! ·read less·
Babes' "Life Come Into Me" video premieres on Stereogum 11 Aug 2015
Watch the video on Stereogum or via YouTube (possibly NSFW). "The men appear to be auditioning for something in front of unamused singer Sarah Rayne Leigh, whose inner monologue corresponds with the song's melancholy 'life is pointless' lyrical theme," says Stereogum. "Under this ruckus lies the band's oozingly slow synth and Leigh's timeless voice."
The track is off the bedroom-rock family five-piece's forthcoming full-length debut, Untitled (Five Tears), out October 30. Noisey recently premiered the first pre-release track "I've Got a Reason to Keep on Living," saying it "crests a sunny surf-pop wave... there's an element of obsession lurking in these beachy grooves." Babes the pop-rock family five-piece from Los Angeles makes their full-length debut with Untitled (Five Tears), out October 30 on Barsuk. Noisey premiered the lead single "I've Got a Reason to Keep on Living," saying it "crests a sunny surf-pop wave. Yet there's an element of obsession lurking in these beachy grooves." Listen here.
The band, siblings Aaron, Zach, and Sarah Rayne Leigh, along with cousins Jeffrey Baird and Bryan Harris, have all been playing music together since they were children and recorded the new LP on a mobile rig in various places around Los Angeles.
Babes honed their skills recording with producers and songwriters such as Steve Lindsey (Leonard Cohen, Elton John), Jeff Barry (The Dixie Cups, The Ronettes, Phil Spector), Benji Hughes (Jeff Bridges), Charlie Midnight (James Brown) and Matthew Wilder (Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus). Untitled (Five Tears) is Babes' debut LP following their self-titled and self-produced EP on Harvest Records in 2014, which Buzzbands LA says "oozes with the beauty and innocence of pop's past" and Stereogum raves, "...retro strains of girl-group pop and twee in a way that will resonate with Camera Obscura fans." ·read less·

Acclaimed Australian duo Big Scary returns to their creative, musical sanctum and releases new song "Organism." The grooving, rhythm-driven track is the first new music fans will have the chance to hear since the US release of their Australian Music Prize-winning full-length, Not Art, in January 2014. Listen here.
The pair have been spending a great deal of their time working on new material for their upcoming album, and are currently putting the finishing touches on what is set to be another forward-thinking journey into one of the most inventive and challenging pop acts in recent years. As frontman/producer Tom Iansek said of the song, "it's moving back towards Jo and me as a band and the dynamic between us. It's refocusing on the duo. With this has come a lot of stripping back of the non-essential, using less to create more. Using new and unfamiliar textures but keeping the performance firmly grounded in that of two people playing." Drummer Jo Syme added, "it's a quirky, three-minute pop song obnoxious sax stabs dance with the bass, and the simple parts slot in around each other with little rhythmic tricks."
Big Scary are set to take their new song (and maybe a few more works-in-progress) on the road this September for a headlining North American tour, kicking off in Vancouver on September 4 at The Cobalt, hitting Bumbershoot, Pygmalion, and Midpoint music festivals, and ending October 2 at Mercury Lounge in New York City. The band is set to tour the EU & UK through the end of the year. You can find all tour dates and information at www.bigscary.net, or on Barsuk's shows page. ·read less·

Peter Michel, who records under the name Hibou, is excited to share a live-performance video of his song "Above Us." The track is taken from his upcoming self-titled debut album being released September 18. The video premiered via Flood who said, "the video he and his touring band have shared for album cut 'Above Us' strips away the song's buoyant drum pattern and sticky guitar work, leaving behind a cascading piano melody and Michel's gentle voice. Armed with nothing more than piano, bass, and acoustic guitar, and lit by the sunlight coming through the windows, the trio transform Michel's parents' living room into an intimate cafe space and reveal the expertly built structure that supports one of Hibou's strongest songs."
Hibou is touring across North America throughout July and August this summer, opening for Cayucas. ·read less·
