burn to shine 05: seattle, waThe concept: gather together a bunch of bands in a house that will be destroyed. All bands play one song each, and perform their song twice, and then the house is destroyed. Capture everything on film, and release it on DVD.

For the Seattle edition, Death Cab's Ben Gibbard gathered together a bunch of great local bands: The Long Winters, Jesse Sykes, David Bazan, Harvey Danger, Tiny Vipers, The Cave Singers, Minus The Bear, Eddie Vedder, Kinski, Spook The Horse, The Can't See, The Blue Scholars, Triumph of Lethargy Skinned To Death, and, of course, himself. Released by Trixie DVD, but available here while supplies last.

Fall tours announced for Barsuk bands [ 20 Jul 2007 ]

If you've been wondering when your favorite Barsuk band is going to be coming around to your neck of the woods again, wait no longer. A dizzying number of tour dates have just been announced, including Nada Surf's US tour in October, Menomena's third big tour of the year (this time with Illinois in October and November), David Bazan's epic journey (with support Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, September through November), Rocky Votolato (playing some dates with Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter) in September and October, John Vanderslice (celebrating his new album, emerald city) and Smoosh (supporting Bloc Party in September). John Vanderslice, David Bazan on OK Computer tribute [ 10 Jul 2007 ]

Hip (and totally awesome) website, Stereogum, has put together a 10th anniversary tribute to the Radiohead classic, ok computer, with contributions from two Barsuk artists. John Vanderslice takes on karma police (which has, as John puts it, "the best bridge ever"), and David Bazan performs his interpretation of the song let down, a favorite at his live shows. Other artists on the tribute include Cold War Kids, Mobius Band, My Brightest Diamond, and more — you can listen and read all about it here.

David Bazan EP, free MP3 now available [ 17 May 2007 ]

The Barsuk release of David Bazan's debut solo EP is now available in the shop (official release date is May 22). You can also download a free MP3 from the album to get a taste for David's amazing songwriting and singing.

David Bazan joins the Barsuk family [ 11 May 2007 ]

Barsuk Records is honored to announce that we have added David Bazan to our roster. We will be releasing the fewer moving parts EP (originally released in a very limited way by Bazan himself in June of last year) on May 22, 2007. We have tentatively scheduled a full-length release of new material for early 2008.
