kind of like spitting / bridges worth burning (bark27)"[Kind Of Like Spitting's Ben] Barnett has always been about catharsis, whether it was simply the banging-on-an-acoustic-guitar-in-a-lonely-room kind of catharsis that his early records espouse, or the more focused, intense version that debuted with his early high-water mark Nothing Makes Sense Without It. However, [Bridges Worth Burning] sees Barnett marrying that catharsis to some of the most catchy rock 'n' roll he's yet produced. The result is, more often than not, quite stunning. The first three songs on the record set the bar immediately: the tense, urgent "Passionate" ("Let's be passionate, it's not like we get another chance to do this") segues perfectly into the manic-depressive bounce of "We Are Both Writers", which then careens headlong into the fiery "Born Beautiful". From there, it's the usual back and forth between the soft (the acoustic "Canaries", the slow-burn "I Want Out") and the loud (the sheer punk fury of "This Lemonade Is Terrible", the sprightly "Following Days"), and the band proves themselves equally capable of kicking ass in either mode."  (PopMatters)

kind of like spitting / bridges worth burning (bark27)"Bridges Worth Burning is a rollercoaster of music. Kind Of Like Spitting stray away from any one particular style on this album, which was produced by John Goodmanson (Low, Wu-Tang Clan). The album starts with two elevating and dynamic songs that help set the tone for the remaining ten tracks. Blissful guitars collide with Gibbard’s art rock drum beats throughout the record. Lyrically, Barnett is all over the board. Love, hate, and trash collectors are among the pool of subjects he touches on."  (30music.com)

kind of like spitting / bridges worth burning (bark27)"Kind Of Like Spitting's most recent offering starts out remarkably aggressive for the group best known for its quiet noodlings. "Passionate," the album's opener, calls to mind some of Burning Airlines' cleaner material, with Ben Barnett crowing in a strong tenor, "I want to relive little minutes / try to keep the dream awake / Let's be passionate / it's not like we'll get another chance to do this." The band then switches to the uptempo swing of "We Are Both Writers," setting an irresistible momentum for Bridges Worth Burning. When the band returns to its quieter, more subdued approach on "I Want Out," it's with a solid, rocking basis behind it, adding new depth and heart to the sentiment "we gots to chill." The album turns again to rock with cameos from Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla and Hey Mercedes/Braid's Bob Nanna. Complete strangers to the band are likely to find Bridges Worth Burning the most inviting and accessible of Kind Of Like Spitting's fare thus far, while old fans will enjoy the adrenaline conjured up by the tense, kinetic numbers like "Crossover Potential" and "This Lemonade Is Terrible.""  (Rockpile)
