Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel have been crafting their own blend of genre-bending music since coming out of nowhere with their debut in 2010. The longtime friends first formed the project that became Phantogram in the small village of Greenwich in upstate New York, and quickly drew attention for their innovative melding of electronic, melodic indie rock with hip-hop beats & samples.
And things just kept going from there. They've collaborated with a diverse group of artists across the music spectrum, including The Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus, Tom Morello, A-Trak, A$AP Rocky, Future Islands, Run the Jewels, Charli XCX, Deftones, and Big Boi. They've worked for years to raise money for mental health programs and to encourage suicide-prevention awareness. All the while, they've released a series of incomparable albums and toured the world, becoming one of the best live bands around, headlining festivals, and continuing to push their music in new directions.
Phantogram's Eyelid Movies & Nighlife on color vinyl
Phantogram's Eyelid Movies, the record that started it all, is now available on clear yellow swirl vinyl.
In 2010, Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel were an upstate New York duo with a debut record full of dark beats & hypnotic melodies. What followed was a whirlwind of touring, festivals, & performances on late night TV.
Fifteen years later, Eyelid Movies still feels as vital and exciting as when it came out, and the album's influence on modern music can be heard in hundreds of electronic- and hip-hop influenced rock bands, including in the work of Billie Eilish and The Marias, and even the more recent work of some of the band's predecessors, like Deftones.
This new pressing contains the original classic album, on clear vinyl with yellow swirl! It's available in record stores on October 3, or you can order now via Barsuk here.
While touring on Eyelid Movies, the band wrote and recorded Nightlife — often working on the mini-album in clubs and hotel rooms between shows.
Nightlife captures that restless, late-night energy, complementing Eyelid Movies with the gold-certified "Don't Move" sitting alongside the savage "Make A Fist;" live staples "16 Years" and "Turning Into Stone;" the delicate, dreamlike quiet of the title track, and the cinematic soundscapes of "A Dark Tunnel." More than a stopgap release, Nightlife became a companion piece that showed Phantogram sharpening their sound while living it in real time.
A new purple wave vinyl pressing of Nightlife will be out everywhere on October 31! (pre-order here)
Or you can save a little & bundle the two albums together! 24 Sep 2025
