Chapter One Chapter Two: Two Singles Chapter Three Chapter Four Recent History

Apr 94: We decided that it was time to record our first 7" single, and blackmailed two Posies and the owner of Egg Studio to help us out. What resulted was the wonderfully packaged but virtually unheard single belated b/w big deal.

3 May 94: Re Bar. With the Incredible Force of Junior and Jessamine.

6 May 94: MOE. Opening for the Minus Five and the Posies.

18 Jun 94: Moore Theatre. Opening for the Dancing French Liberals of 1848 (formerly the Gits) and the Posies, a benefit concert for the Queer Information Project.

12 Jul 94: MOE. Opening for the Kent 3, Flop and the Deflowers.

27 Jul 94: Colourbox, with Idol Minds and Nectarine.

Sep 94: We started working on our second single this month, swing dream. Because we did it ourselves, this one took a bit longer to finish.

20 Oct 94: OK Hotel. With Beads of Mercury and Stella Maris. Stella Maris were great. Great people and great music. We had an okay performance, our first show in some time. Not a very big turnout—it was a cold, windy Thursday evening. It's too bad they made the OK a bar, rather than an all-ages club like it used to be.

10 Nov 94: The Weathered Wall. With S*M*A*S*H and Stella Maris. Stella Maris was, again, great, although the sound pretty much sucked. We had a good show, with only a few mistakes. It was a last-minute deal, so we were somewhat unprepared, but it worked out fine.

19 Nov 94: Jimmy Z's (Everett), with Box of Daylight and the Posies.

29 Nov 94: Crocodile Cafe. With Welcome and Hush Harbor. Both bands were very good—thoroughly enjoyed them. We played well also—the house was full, and the crowd seemed into our music. All in all a very good show. Our set was one of the weirdest we've done—it included living room, broken bottle and Gleemer (a Guided by Voices song).

14 Jan 95: Off Ramp. With Idol Minds, Bone Cellar and Nero's Rome—we played second.

21 Jan 95: Lucia Douglas Gallery (Bellingham). With Pinwheel and Foxmange (we played 2nd). The Gallery was mostly concrete, and pretty echoey, but not horrible. Pinwheel were a group of young (high school age?) 'Hamsters with a lot of cute/fun energy (including Ben from the as-yet-unformed Death Cab for Cutie). Foxmange was a great 3-4 piece, female vocalist, bassist and drummer with an occasional 2nd guitar player—very Throwing Muses inspired (and later to develop into the band Little Champions). We played second, played very loosely and the vocal mic kept cutting out, but it was a fun evening nonetheless.

4 Feb 95: Beatnix, with the Pine Monkees (formerly Blood Circus). Beatnix is a really small bar on Capital Hill, former site of Squid Row. No stage, no sound except for the vocals, capacity of 90 people. We were given an hour and a half to play, and we used up most of that—played 15 or 16 songs. At the very beginning of war, our last song, Josh broke his A-string. Christopher felt it would've been a crime to end like that, so he told him to put on a new one, and Jason, Barrett and Christopher played Gleemer (GBV song).

8 Feb 95: Crocodile Cafe. With Jessamine and Babe the Blue Ox.

7 Mar 95: Re-Bar. With Burgundy, Foxmange, and Mending Wall.

25 Mar 95: Colourbox. With Redneck Girlfriend, Cat Food, and Girl with 100 Heads (RG was added to the show at the last minute). We played a good set, including Dive Position (Boys Next Door cover). Cat Food is a three-piece band, girl punk-pop—they were inspired, with some pretty good songs. Gw100H was polished and slick; great people, with interesting music.

2 May 95: Re-Bar. With Incredible Force of Junior and Pansy Division.

12 May 95: Rendezvous (Jewel Box Theatre). With Pea Soup and Stella Maris. Pea Soup are great. We love them. Stella Maris are great, too. We were sloppy, but everyone seemed to love us—we even played an encore. All around a great lineup and a fun night.

20 May 95: Cellophane Square. Technically, this wasn't a This Busy Monster show, since it was just Christopher and Jason doing an acoustic set for the University Stret Fair inside of Cellophane Square. Strange environment to play in—people coming in all the time, looking at you for a minute or two, then walking away, hardly anyone stopping for a significant amount of time to listen (except, of course, for a few friends). C & J pulled out some old, non-TBM songs, including oh, an arrow and a rope, and silence (mine). It was fun.
