swing dream b/w smell of blood [krang002, January 1995]
This 7" single was recorded only a few months after our first one, belated. It was nice to be back in the comfort of Barsuk Studio, and producing ourselves. The funny thing about the recording of swing dream is that we had no plans to put it on the single. It was the end of a long day of recording. We had just ten minutes before we had to stop playing because of the neighbors. The mics were all set up, so on a whim we just hit record and played swing dream once. It ended up sounding pretty good, so we used it as the A-side. The cover was done once again by the brilliant Thingmaker L, who somehow managed to get all the little circles lined up correctly. Check out the Barsuk Records store for information about ordering a copy of your own. |

belated b/w big deal [krang001, June 1994]
This was our first attempt at producing the much-loved antiquarian vinyl in the form of a 7" single. We decided to record in a place other than our own studio, with someone else producing the songs. We enlisted friends Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow (of the Posies), and got some time at PopLlama's Egg Studio. It was a good experience, but far too rushedwe did in 2 days what normally takes us at least 2 weeks. This was the first time we worked with Thingmaker L for the cover art, and we liked him so much we kept going back. Check out the Barsuk Records store for information about ordering a copy of your own. |

dark hands [June 1993]
This tape was made very soon after This Busy Monster became an official band (that is, very soon after Josh and Barrett joined the lineup). We did it in our own studio, but had a couple of friends (Jon and Ken of the Posies) come over to help us out. It's a pretty rough-sounding set of recordings, but a lot of people have told us it's their favorite. It contains the songs pumpkin, i live odd, second train, underground. It is, unfortunately, no longer available. |

ginger [1992]
This is a tape we put together in 1992, before we were a real band. It's a collection of songs we had recorded in our own studio when we were just learning how to run things. Jason was transitioning from bass to lead guitar, and he plays both on this tape. Josh played bass on a couple of trackshis first stint as a monster. Like dark hands, this tape is no longer available. |
