Melbourne duo Big Scary is the proud recipient of the 9th Annual Australian Music Prize, a prestigious award dedicated to recognizing excellence in Australian music (similar to Britain's Mercury Prize and Canada's Polaris Prize). They collected the award for their sophomore release, Not Art, along with a check for A$30,000 ($27,000 US) at a ceremony in Sydney. Not Art was deemed to be the best of this year's nominees by a panel of 11 judges, after paring down a shortlist of 9 records from the original 43 selections that included Cloud Control, Jagwar Ma and other notable Australian artists. Not Art is scheduled for US release on March 25.

Big Scary is soon to embark on their first extensive North American tour, where they will join fellow Barsuk labelmates Say Hi. The jaunt starts April 11 in Vancouver, BC at the Media Room and ends May 14 in San Diego, CA at the Casbah. ·read less·

Barsuk is pleased to reveal the new video from Melbourne-based duo Big Scary for "Invest," off their new full-length Not Art. The clip features a dark, eerily rotating set upon which the members perform the tune. The video's minimalism suits the sparseness of the track and is powerful in its simplicity. "Invest" is now available for streaming and embed here.

The duo is excited to announce their first extensive North American tour, where they will join fellow Barsuk labelmates Say Hi. Touring in support of Not Art, the jaunt starts April 11 in Vancouver at the Media Room and ends May 16 in San Francisco at Bottom of the Hill. Tickets are on sale tomorrow and the full tour dates can be found here. ·read less·

Barsuk is excited to release Big Scary's new video for "Twin Rivers," off their Twin Rivers EP, released today via digital retailers, and from their upcoming album Not Art, out Spring 2014. According to director Shaun Garland, the intricately shot video "is a story of a praying mantis living in the perils of a modern world. The praying mantis in the video is played by Florence. On set the crew would wait patiently for her to move into a good position or give a look with personality. She performed like a star and even gave the unplanned-for scene by continually moving towards the window, which created the most poignant part of the story." The clip premiered on Vevo and is available here. ·read less·

Barsuk Records is excited to introduce Australia's Big Scary to North American audiences, starting with a digital EP on November 12th in anticipation of a full-length album Not Art due Spring 2014. The Twin Rivers EP features two tracks off Not Art, a non-album collaboration with noted artist Jonti, plus remixes by Dan the Automator, The Antlers, and Barsuk's own Menomena.

BrooklynVegan premiered the The Antlers' remix of "Twin Rivers," and noted the apt pairing, highlighting both bands' "knack for delicate, layered dream pop." In their premiere of Menomena's remix of "Luck Now," IndieShuffle praised the retooling, saying "Sometimes remixes improve on a melody. Other times they fortify a bassline or amplify percussion. Menomena's take on "Luck Now" does all of those things and so much more."

In conjunction with today's announcement, the Dan the Automator remix of "Twin Rivers" is now available below, and the whole EP will stream via Spotify starting on Tuesday, November 5, one week prior to its wide digital release.
