Hibou announces new album, premieres new single via KEXP

Hibou, the project of Seattle's Peter Michel, is thrilled to announce their new album Halve, out July 26. The band premiered the first single, "Inside Illumination", via KEXP who called the song "as deeply textured as it is deeply personal."

If "Inside Illumination" only slightly quenched your thirst for new Hibou music, never fear! Keep your eye on your favorite streaming services where the band will be releasing one song a week off Halve from now until the record's July 26 release date. Halve is an album full of complex but precisely layered melodies – on which Michel plays every instrument and produced entirely himself. The band has also announced a string of US tour dates starting July 24 in their hometown of Seattle. 29 May 2019

New Hibou track!

Today Hibou shares "Junipero Love", the brand new single from the forthcoming album Something Familiar, out March 2nd. "Junipero Love" was inspired by "San Junipero", the Emmy winning episode of Black Mirror's third season. "The contrast between the two worlds depicted in the episode hit very close to home for me," says Peter Michel, the force behind Hibou. "I often feel torn between a conscious state and losing a hold of my memories and who I am." Michel's ongoing battle with anxiety and depersonalization was a major factor in the songwriting behind Something Familiar as a whole, and as such he also found common ground with the anxieties of the episode's protagonist as she navigated two realities and a burgeoning relationship. With its "breezy and playful guitar lines and cozy synth swells," writes Seattle Weekly, "'Junipero Love' idyllically distills the warm dreaminess of San Junipero's digital beaches."
